Abishekam refers to the bathing ritual of a deity by pouring water and other sacred substances on the deity idol while chanting mantras. Abishekam is performed at the beginning of the Pooja and devotees can sponsor the Abishekam to seek God's blessings.
Abishekam performed with Panchamirtham (banana, ghee, honey, jaggery and cardamom. In addition, other substances like seedless dates and sugar candies are also added).
There will be 3 kumba pots containing holy water that has a coconut, mango leaves & thetpai (dried grass) on the top of the pot. A special pooja is conducted for the Kumbams and the holy water in the kumba pot will be used for Abishekam for the deity.
A Homa is first performed by offering sacred materials to God via Agni (flames) before Sankabishekam: 108 conch shells containing holy water. A special pooja is conducted for all conch shells and the holy water will be used for Abishekam for the deity.
